ABOUT DELICIOUS VINYL ISLAND
In the summer of 1987, two Los Angeles DJs — Matt Dike and Michael Ross — converted a tiny L.A. apartment into a recording studio and started a record label called Delicious Vinyl. Championing artists from the streets and delivering music to dance floors and living rooms worldwide, the upstart label quickly made hip hop history with releases by Tone Loc, Young MC, Def Jef, Body & Soul, The Brand New Heavies, The Pharcyde, Masta Ace, Born Jamericans, The Whoridas, Fatlip, Mr. Vegas & many more.
It’s lesser known that Delicious Vinyl has long been a reputable supplier of quality Caribbean sounds. The label, which was initially distributed by Chris Blackwell’s Island Records, released hip-hop/dancehall fusionists Born Jamericans’ albums Kids from Foreign and Yardcore albums in the 1990s, and put out soca superstar Machel Montano’s first international release, “Come Dig It” in 1995. Reggae/dancehall stars Mr. Vegas, Jovi Rockwell and Ce’Cile have all released music through Delicious Vinyl. The label was even tapped to produce the reggae-driven soundtrack to Marked for Death, a 1990 action flick starring Steven Seagal.
ABOUT DUB SIREN HIFI
The Dub Siren crew started to build sound system in 2012 and are operating the sound system with a full stack. It’s a hand-built 5-Way soundsystem, powered by massive 14K watts analog amplifiers. The traditional setup includes turntables, CDJ, a microphone, a dub siren, several analog DIY dub sirens, an analog cross-over, and analog vintage delay units. The goal is bringing proper Sound System Culture to Los Angeles.
ABOUT ROADBLOCK
By borrowing traffic sign imagery, encouraging guests to pull their best motorsport looks, and featuring vintage BMW’s as props to climb and dance on, Roadblock is a slight nod to the premise of defiant, lawless, masquerading revolutionary roots that Afro/Caribbean music and carnival festivity are rooted in. The WEST ADAMS ROADBLOCK will feature 10 DJ’s atop A TRINIDAD CARNIVAL STYLE TRUCK STAGE delivering relentlessly vibrant and joyous SOCA, DANCEHALL AND AFROBEAT RHYTHMS all day until sunset.
