2014 marks the beginning of an exciting partnership between EMP Museum and Decibel Festival. As part of this partnership, Decibel will be hosting our will call, media lounge, conference, film series, happy hour events and opening gala event at various spaces within EMP. In addition, Decibel will be hosting several of our most anticipated audio/visual showcases across three state-of-the-art venues, including; the JBL Theater, the multi-floored Level 3 and the awe-inspiring Sky Church, which boasts boasts 65 foot ceilings and a mammoth 33 foot x 60 foot HD LED screen.
With roughly a quarter of our showcases and the entire dB Conference taking place at EMP this year, we look forward to consolidating much of the festival experience. In addition, Decibel Festival Pass holders will have full access to explore EMP’s exhibits, including the recently launched Spectacle: The Music Video interactive exhibit.
ABOUT EMP MUSEUM
EMP is a leading-edge, nonprofit museum, dedicated to the ideas and risk-taking that fuel popular culture. With its roots in rock ‘n’ roll, EMP serves as a gateway museum, reaching multigenerational audiences through collections, exhibitions and educational programs, using interactive technologies to engage and empower its visitors. At EMP, artists, audiences and ideas converge, bringing understanding, interpretation and scholarship to the popular culture of our time.
EMP is housed in a 140,000 square foot Frank O. Gehry-designed building. This spectacular, prominently visible structure has the presence of a monumental sculpture set amid the backdrop of the Seattle Center.
ABOUT THE BUILDING
Designed by world renowned architect Frank Gehry, EMP’s exterior conveys all the energy and fluidity of music. Three-thousand panels, made up of 21 thousand individually cut and shaped stainless steel and painted aluminum shingles, encase the outside of the building. Their individual finishes respond to different light conditions and appear to change when viewed from different angles, reminding audiences that music and culture is constantly evolving.
